The School of Media and Film at the University of Winchester is hosting a lecture by Dr Mark Kermode and Professor Linda Ruth Williams on Wednesday 14th October as part of the “Inside Track” research series.

“Seeing Stars: Interviews, News, and Film History”

Dr Mark Kermode (Observer, BBC) and Professor Linda Ruth Williams (University of Southampton)

Wednesday 14th October 2015, 6.30pm – Stripe Auditorium, University of Winchester.

What can academics and film journalists gain from interviewing film makers and stars about their work? How does the interview – as product promotion or career retrospective – help to build film history? How do journalists’ interviews with stars function in the publicity machine of film marketing?

Dr Mark Kermode talks about the stars and directors he has interviewed as a journalist, and how he negotiates the promotional agendas of the film PR machine. Professor Linda Ruth Williams discusses how she uses practitioner interviews in academic writing.

The lecture is free and open to all. If you would like to attend, please register here: https://goo.gl/MD2k2Y
