Would you like to connect with a strong network of academics and journalists, and establish your expertise at a conference in your location? And get funded for publication?

The Centre for Media and Celebrity Studies (CMCS), along with Centre for Ecological, Social & Informatics Cognitive Research (ESI.CORE) and WaterHill Publishing, invites academics to apply for a funded position of a Book Editor and Conference Chair for its growing international series Bridging Gaps. This position is ideal for a researcher who would like to develop a research area, be a part of the chairing committee, and lead an edited collection based on best-selected papers.

You will be an experienced and ambitious academic with a strong background in teaching, research, and administration at an institution where you would like to host a conference.  You will primarily be responsible for selecting conference location, proposing the area of research interest, and developing outstanding outreach of the research area under the supervision of one of our leading board members. You will understand the importance of cultivating effective working relationships both internally and externally with board members, delegates, and publishers. Furthermore, you will have excellent written and oral communication skills and possess exceptional abilities to use online communication tools.

The selected candidate will have a Ph.D. and tenure-track/tenured academic position with a proven track record in publishing, teaching, organizing seminars, and other academic events using necessary academic tools. The successful candidate will have demonstrated skills in planning and implementing a successful conference and publication at an international level.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Work closely with the Director, Board Members, and Chairing Committee to:

  • Excellent outreach and dissemination of research
  • Share Call for Papers widely
  • Email delegates and send notifications
  • Ensure timely conference registrations
  • Help design a conference program
  • Problem-solve unforeseen challenges with grace, humor, and efficiency
  • Perform duties as assigned with a high-level independence and innovation
